The Affair
Week Three

What was it about a man as damaged as Montand that made Emma say yes when she should have fled and never looked back? His intense sexual preferences intrigued her more than she'd been willing to admit. But now that she's been privy to his secrets - including a long-ago family tragedy, and the true identity of a woman who lurks in the shadows of his mansion - Emma fears she'll be just one more submissive conquest in Montand's troubled life. And then abandoned like so many who came before.

She needs to be strong and protect her heart, but her desires won't let her resist. So, if their affair is to continue it'll be on her conditions: it will not continue indefinitely, only she can end it, and when it's over, they'll part and never speak again of the things they dared to do behind the locked doors of the Breakers.

Memory Lane

The taxi driver took off down Seventh Avenue as if he’d just mainlined a pound of crystal meth. This guy was on a kamikaze mission, reckless even by New York standards where taxi drivers charge down the streets with no regard for their passengers’ lives.
“Slow down, sir, please!” I yelled through the opening in the glass partition as I contemplated ditching this driver at the next corner.
He slammed on his brakes. “Okay, lady! I’ll slow it down a little. Yeah.” But when the light turned green, he began weaving between cars and playing chicken to blow past the giant city buses. We brushed a bike messenger who retaliated with a fisted punch on the trunk. I again waffled about getting out, but it was that bustling time of early rush hour just before the taxi shift change, when I wouldn’t be able to get another, so I stayed put and latched my seat belt. Besides, my kids were waiting for me at home, and I was already half an hour late leaving the office.

I sat strapped in the ratty backseat, tossed back and forth down the length of Manhattan’s Seventh Avenue like a Ping- Pong ball.
This car is going to crash.
The lethal night of the plane accident came back to me in waves, starting with the instinctual pangs telling me not to step up from the tarmac onto the slippery, rickety staircase of the little six- seater. This plane is not made for all this stormy snow, I had said to myself that night. And I was right.
So much of my life had gone according to plan since then, much of it mapped out in a two- decades’- long fit to fix wrongs— the most evil happening on the eve of my sixteenth birthday that winter night, eighteen-years and four-months ago.
my father had been planning the trip all year. He had told
Mom it was his chance to spend a few days one- on- one with his only child, teaching me the secrets of ice fishing at his favorite spot on Diamond Lake up north. He’d been talking about this as long as I could remember, and, finally, a week before my six-teenth birthday, Mom said I was old enough to go.

Dad had handed in his boarding pass outside, and he came onto the small commuter plane in Montreal, dusting snow off his beard and shoulders once he managed to jam his huge frame into the seat. I knew Dad saw the fear in my face and tried his best to reassure me. All I could think about was how small and fragile that plane seemed against the howling winds outside. Deep down that voice was telling me this was a bad idea, but I kept my mouth shut at first. I didn’t want to look like a frightened little girl.

Dad smelled of metal and cold air, a scent that further unset-tled me because it was so far from his usual salty warmth. I rubbed his arm to chase away the odor and he smiled down at me.
On the plane, I thought danger was nearby but I didn’t want to scare anybody. Others have certainly had that same feeling before they board a plane with severe weather forecast in the flight path, wondering if they should resist getting on because this could be the one that goes down. A moment’s hesitation before they step over that little gap and feel the rush of cold out-side air between the boarding ramp and the aircraft front galley. Is my mind playing tricks or do I somehow know this plane is going down? Am I having some kind of psychic experience? Am I going to be on the local news as the one person who survived only because I didn’t get on at the last minute?

The whole body stiffens on the ramp for a moment to stall and consider the possibility.
But then, No. That’s ridiculous. Screw it. I’m getting on. Statis-tics say it is more dangerous to drive to the airport than to get on this plane.
At least most often it goes like that. I guess you don’t need to be clairvoyant to know that during a blizzard, when a lumber-jack pilot in a plaid shirt working for a low- budget commuter airline in Canada’s outback says, “It’s just a little snow,” you get out of the twin- engine Cessna and run for your life.
my plan since then has been to run for my life. Run away from a boyfriend who kept traveling too far, run into a marriage that I thought would work. Rush to have kids to cement the
union. Rush home to them today. This plan means I’ve tried to solve everything quickly before all hell descended on me again. Trauma is like that. It smashes into your life out of the blue and just lingers, dripping like a broken egg.
The kamikaze taxi lurched me back into the New York pres-ent, and the frayed seat belt snapped into place, jerking me hard. “Please slow down, sir,” I yelled again at the driver. “That light was clearly turning red, and you were never going to make it, so you don’t need to speed up just to slam the brakes.”
“Okay, lady. Thanks for the driving tip. All I need at the end of my shift.” This time he took off two full seconds before the light even turned green. I clenched my teeth and again started to feel that old tingle I’d felt in my bones as the pilot had swung the plane out of the boarding area some eighteen years earlier.

Tick-Tock…

Verdict

Any Fans of Collide? Pulse is the sequel and is just as more heart racing than before...
Wow oh wow I freaking loved Pulse! Gail McHugh certainly knows how to get her readers hook, line and sinker with her books!
I was obsessed when I read Collide and loved reading about Mr Tall Dark and Handsome Gavin Blake and Emily Cooper. Gail has a way of writing that their emotions jump right out of the book and make the reader truly understand how much they adore each other...at the end of Collide I was left needing the next book soo much..when I got my hands on a copy of Pulse i squealed with delight so much!

The beginning of the book Emily Cooper has left her first love Dillion and wants her only love Gavin back in her life but love always comes at a price doesn't it? Emily is willing to risk everything to get Gavin back in her life... Only time will tell if she succeeds...

“We were written for one another, and I wouldn't change one line in our romance novel. The good, the bad, the in between. It's ours. We own it.”

Pulse was freaking amazing! I loved every minute of reading. The pure emotions grabbed me so much and I cried, I laughed, I smiled, I cried again, cried some more, had a mini heart attack...damn you Gail! but then smiled and cried again lol!
I don't want to give much away because with Pulse you need to appreciate the story yourself but it is amazing!

“Gavin Blake, you’re more of a man than any man I’ve ever known. You’re gentle. You’re kind. You’re strong and witty. You’re personable and warm, and you can reduce most females into blithering puddles of goo with the simplest words.”

Gail really has the writing skills to make two fantastic books in which she pulls the readers in with not only a fit handsome man called Mr Blake but the emotion that runs through the books. You really feel like your in the little love bubble. it is kinda cute!

I absolute adored everything about Pulse, there is nothing I cannot fault! I just all my readers who haven't read Collide or Pulse yet.. to go order them right now!
I would say Collide and Pulse are one of my favourite book series of 2014 by far!

“Please forgive me for fighting against us, Gavin. Please forgive me for not fighting for us when I knew we were supposed to be together. Forgive me for being the weak mess I am. But more than anything… thank you for loving me. Thank you for your dimpled smile and your bottle caps. I’ll never be able to look at one without thinking of you. Thank you for your stupid Yankees and your wiseass remarks. Thank you for wanting late night drives and sunset-watching with me. Thank you for wanting the good, the bad, and the in-between.”

Emotional, Freaking Amazing, Beautiful, Heart Racing, Sexual all add up to a

Caz's review "spellbound" by Jane Green

Spellbound By Jane Green
This book is about a couple called Alice and Joe. Alice is very much in love with him so in love with him that she marries him.... they live in a lovely house in London but not for very long as joes indiscretions force him a transfer and they both have to move to connecticut America. however they buy a cottage in the country side bit Joes only down there at weekends (sometimes not even then) to see alice he has a flat in new york where funny enough he takes his misstresses there. However Alice is starts to not trust joe as much and suspects he is cheating but just doesn't want to believe it. but eventually having found some information by going through his computer she finds her suspicions very true indeed.

I could not put this book down!!! loved every page of it. The characters were so real I felt like I was in the book with them (if you knew me this doesnt normally happen) I loved Alice she had some guts knowing he was cheating but just refusing to believe it and to change into some posh quewn for him whilst out with him to charity events im a total believer in be yourself dont impress other people so when joe was encouraging her to wear all this fancy stuff I really did begin to really hate him obviously I hated his before with all the infidelity. however all alice's and joe's friends were lovely :-). I loved the ending and I certainly didnt want it to stop I wanted it to carry on! It was such a well written book and one I couldn't put down. thats why im giving it a ***** star rating if I could give it 10 I would it was brilliant one of jane green's books I would highly recommend!

Caz's review "the other woman" by Jane Green

The other woman by Jane Green

This story is about a couple called Ellie and Dan they both are in love and plan to get married. However there's one problem Dan's mother Linda is very interferring in theirlives especially towards ellie which does annoy ellie alot (it would annoy me too!) she basically plans all the wedding for them to the point it doesnt feel like ellie's wedding at all it feels like Linda's wedding! But ellie has to go along with it as linda and dan's dad michael payed for all the wedding. It gets worse after ellie has her baby Tom!

The book centres around ellie and Linda's relationship which in the long run causes extreme problems for her and dans relationship to the point they split up! At first ellie was thrilled to have linda as her "adopted" mother because of ellie losing her mum at such a young age. But linda gradually becomes controlling of all situations and doesnt stick up for ellie at all !(and that really annoyed me!)

I got on well with all the characters in the book they were written well however I so didnt like lisa very much what an annoying this she was and I couldnt believe ellie would remain friends with her after what she did (you will find out if you read the book) I also didnt like charlie he was a snidy thing. But I loved ellie's best friend Trish she was "cool"!
I could really relate to this book about an intererring mother in law as ive been in that position myself but we shall leave that for another book lol. I throughly enjoyed this book it was an easy read and I could get into it straight away so thats why im giving it ***** stars as its another great book by jane green and the ending was perfect!

Caz's review of "life swap" by Jane Green

Life Swap by Jane Green

This book is about 2 women one called Vicky Townsley who lives in London and is a features editor for a magazine in London called Poise. The other woman called Amber Winslow who is from connecticut USA and has got a hubby and two children called Jared and Gracie.
The story is about these two women who are not happy in their lives doing the same thing all the time and having to compete with other women. So as a journalist for a popular magazine Vicky gets offered something that might be life changing for her she gets offered a life swap with another woman and live their lives wearing the other womans clothes sleeping in the marrital bed and being mum to a womans kids who after many of interviews Vicky picks Amber.
when doing the swap both Vicky and Amber don't realise after a few weeks of the swap they both get severe homesick. Although they both like the different lives its just not for them at all.

The characters in this book were interesting especially Richard (Ambers rich husband) and Daniel (Vickys latest squeeze or bed buddy if you want to call it that!) I absoluted hated Amber's American friends they really got on my nerves with all this competing stuff I know I couldnt handle it so im very suprised that Amber stuck it out for so long!
The story line was good however it took 100+ pages to get into and I havent been having that trouble with other Jane Green books. However this didnt put me off with continuing to read the story and im glad I did. I loved the ending and would like to read more about Amber and Vicky as they were both really good characters and would love to have known how Amber and Richard's business got off too.

I have given it **** because of it taking a while to get into however despite all that which is really not a bad thing It was a good story!

Book Review: Just For Christmas by Scarlett Bailey

Title: Just For Christmas
Author: Scarlett Bailey
Publisher: Ebury
Publication Date: 7th November 2013

Blurb
Her best friend's wedding...

When Alex Munro learns that the love of her life is getting married to another girl, all she wants is to be alone - and as far away from Edinburgh as possible.

Moving to a Cornish cottage, which comes complete with the world's scruffiest dog, Alex finds that her new neighbours are determined to involve her in their madcap Christmas festivities.

Then she meets her sexy neighbour Ruan - and somehow Alex doesn't want to be alone this Christmas after all. But having lost one fiancé, Ruan has no intention of letting anyone get close to him again...

Verdict

Yep its correct i've read a Christmas book in September...ooops!
I never got chance to read Just for Christmas last Christmas and i just had the urge to read a Christmas book the other day so I picked Just for Christmas off my shelve and settled down to get sucked in, and Straight away you are sucked in with the little Cornish village that Alex Munro has escaped to..

I loved the book so much, I loved the Christmas feel but also the real life dramas that happens around that special time too. Alex Munro is the new Harbour Master in the little Cornish village of Poldore in which she has escaped miles and miles away from Edinburgh from her best friend Marcus and her Dad...

Bouy is definitely the star of the book at the start being the smelly old dog who won't leave Alex alone and follows her everywhere to then being the hero and helping Alex in a situation.
I Loved all the characters so much especially Alex and Ruan, you could tell they had chemistry although Ruan wasn't letting himself get close to anybody again after his girlfriend left him.
Alex seemed such a sweet lass but also still in love with her best friend in which you know is never going to happen but she got stuck in with her work right away!

The village of Poldore really does stick in your mind and there's a few times while I was reading I wanted to be right there in the village with it being Christmas. You also can tell the village come together when there is trouble which is fantastic!

I have read Scarlett Bailey's Previous books and I loved them loads so I knew I was going to love Just For Christmas just as much! The Cover is beautiful and very glittery which stands out on shelves for sure!
Just For Christmas deserves 5 Magical, Christmassy, Romantic Stars and I look forward to read more of Alex & Ruan!
