Festive Guest Post: Xmas Q&A with . . .Author Julia Williams

Julia Williams has always made up stories, and until relatively recently thought everyone else did too.
Julia grew up in North London, one of eight children, including a twin sister who also writes. She attended St Michael's Grammar School, before going to Liverpool University to study English. While at university she met her husband, David, a dentist. They have four children and live in Surrey.
After leaving Liverpool, Julia went into a career in publishing, firstly in academic books (which she loathed) and then into children's books (which she still loves). Following the birth of her second baby, Julia left to start a freelance career, and decided that now was a good time to start writing.
Julia is proud to be a member of The Romantic Novelist's Association.

Q) When do you normally get in the Festive spirit?
I love attending Christmas Carol services. Nothing like a good sing along to get in the festive mood. Though I am rather glad my children are beyond the point of Nativities, as I have sat through some dire ones in my time (one of which formed the inspiration for the first Nativity Marianne has to help out with in Last Christmas.)

Q) What is a family tradition you like to have or do at Christmas?
My children still demand stockings, so that's a big one. Decorating the tree is another. We don't I think have any specific family traditions, but we always have a turkey. On the rare occasions when I have got out of cooking on Christmas Day the children have all demanded a Christmas Eve turkey instead... We tend to eat at lunchtime and then watch Dr Who and whatever else is on on Christmas Night.

Q) How do you feel when your writing your Christmas books in Summer?
That is always a challenge I have to admit. I used to keep the kids' Christmas lists and letters to Santa to help inspire me. Plus I tend to keep hold of festive mags and write down silly things that have happened the previous Christmas to try and get me in the mood. The hardest thing is picturing snow on a sunny day in June!

Q) Do you love buying/wrapping gifts and seeing everybodys face's on Christmas Day?
I am a rubbish wrapper, and I have a big family, so no, I hate wrapping gifts. But I do enjoy the buying and I love it when a present works.

Q) What it is like on Christmas Day for you & your family?
It's a lot easier now then it was, as the children get up at a reasonable hour. (We had one hideous year, when I went to bed at 2am and they all got up at 4am!). So I get up now and put the turkey on and go back to bed. The children unwrap their stockings, and then we allow them presents from the tree till lunchtime. Lunch is traditonally about two hours later then I think it's going to be -  as we had a rubbish cooker. That should be better this year, as we bought a new one in January. The old one also made it's way into Coming Home for Christmas. Cat's life parallels mine in quite uncanny ways.

Q) When do you normally put your Christmas tree up?
Earlier then I'd like, later then the rest of the family would like. But usually a couple of weeks before Christmas. I don't like having it up too late as I prefer the anticipation being closer to the event. We usually all join in and we have lights in our conservatory, and when it's up I feel properly festive.

Coming Home For Christmas by Julia Williams Blog Tour

Today I am part of Coming Home for Christmas' Blog Tour, Now firstly the cover is so pretty and so full of glitter which sparkles! Now people who are fans of Julia's books will remember Cat,Pippa and Marianne from A Merry Little Christmas so It was great to catch up with them.

The three friends are all dreading Christmas...

Cat needs to get off the ‘has-been’ heap and rescue her flagging TV career but the demands of her extended family are reaching fever pitch and she barely has time to breathe. Meanwhile, Pippa has got too many balls to juggle as a struggling single mum trying to hang on to her family farm. And Marianne’s marriage is looking distinctly rocky now her beloved husband’s ex is back on the scene.

Happy Christmas? Forget it.
But Christmas is a time for miracles, and when the villagers learn they must fight for what they love, it becomes clear that there is festive magic in the air.
Suddenly for Cat, Pippa and Marianne, it’s looking like it might just be a Christmas to remember …

Coming home for Christmas was great, It was nice to catch up with Cat,Pippa and Marianne but also catch up with whats been going on in Hope Christmas although this year is going to be a tough one for them when a building company LK Holdings want to build a hotel on the fields behind Pippa & Dan's farm which could be disaster for the farm. The Village all come together with Pippa being the lead of stopping them.

I loved reading this book so much! It wasn't an uplifting book until near the end. It was quite serious as the village didn't know what was going to happen to them with LK Holdings wanting to buy people in the village out.
I loved reading Dan's diary and how he was coping after his accident in which he's pushed his wife/ex Pippa as he wants her to be happy and he feels he's letting her down..which is so heartbreaking to read.

I would recommend anybody to read this book! If you haven't read any of Julia's books you can still read Coming Home For Christmas on its own, the characters and story line is easy to follow without having to read the other books.
I am a fan of Julia Williams' books as she definitely knows how to get us in the festive mood and connecting with the characters.

Coming Home For Christmas is 4 twinkling, glittering, heartbreaking, tough love stars

First thing i want to say is this was first time I have read any books by Julia Williams and when i saw the festive cover on Amazon I just knew i had to purchase straight for my Kindle however I waited until to week before Christmas to start reading to get me in the festive mood.

I was not wrong, this book was brilliant i loved it!! We meet three families The Tinsall's, The Holliday's and The North's the great thing about A Merry Little Christmas is we meet all the families preparing throughout the year for Christmas with also life's drama's following them along the path.

Julia is definitely a splendid writer and i absolutely enjoyed this book and it was written so perfectly and had me giggling all the way through really.
I couldn't possibly say who was my favourite character because I loved them all dearly and wished I had known them in person I was that engrossed in their day to day lifes throughtout the year.

This book was definitely in my top 10 Christmas reads for 2012 and I recommend anybody to grab a copy and read so much.
You will certainly feel very festive by the time you finish the last page. I for one will be reading more books by Julia Williams because she is great!
